I am truly grateful for public transportation, I don't have a car, so without it, I would be stranded. But, those of us who ride the buses and trains everyday are often waiting, with crowds of others, to get to our desired location.
What if Art could make that 5, 10 or 15 minutes of waiting even just a little more enjoyable?
This summer, I worked with Katherine Darnstadt at Latent Design to turn a busy bus stop into an "Art-Making-Moment" at the Polish triangle in Wicker Park in Chicago. We created a mural making experience on each of the bus waiting stations and invited everyone to participate in painting while they waited.
I created the white outlines and asked folks to create their own art, faces, patterns and textures inside the shapes while they waited for their next bus. A few artists even missed their next bus to paint a little while longer! The final pieces were filled with so much color and diversity.
"I love developing artistic opportunities where others feel free to experiment creatively. Even the smallest "creative moment" can enhance someone's day."
