Urban Gateways is a non-profit organization that connects artists with the Chicago public schools to provide arts programming for many students who have little or no access to art education. Last year I was selected to be one of their teaching artists. Recently, they partnered with Vecco Studios (a crazy make-your-own-rug retail store) to raise money to support arts in the schools. I volunteered to design a 4×5 ft rug, along with 5 other Urban Gateways visual artists. (mine’s the one with all the circular elements.) They had a huge event, auctioned off the giant rug and The FootworkKingz (amazing dancers) performed live. It was such a fun time! I love how art brings people together and can be used in so many ways on so many things…Click here to learn more about Urban Gateways or Vecco Studio.
